Norfolk blends brutalist architecture with layered interiors to boldly reinterpret the Australian beach house on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Perched on a knoll in Sorrento, the home features a century-old Norfolk pine outside and a tactile, minimalist interior by Simone Haag, set against the rugged brutalism of Travis Walton Architecture. The design challenges traditional notions of a coastal home.
The brief was to create a family home with views of the bay, Melbourne skyline, and nearby golf course, using durable materials to withstand harsh coastal conditions. “The raw texture of off-form concrete is softened by warm timber cladding,” says Walton. “We used timber flooring from Made by Storey’s Touch Collection to complement the concrete, its dark hues perfect for the palette.”
